Welcome to Day Six and the final installment of our journey into food rescue from the food’s perspective! (Missed Day Five? Check it out here!) If you’ve enjoyed our story, please consider giving to Leftovers today to keep rescuing good food like Russell and the Happy Apples. Now let’s dive back in one more time to learn the fate of our backyard bounty!
Back in the Happy Apples’ backyard, something wonderful is happening…
People! People in the yard, climbing up ladders and using fruit pickers to gather my whole apple family. Some were even picking up the apples that had fallen on the ground, the ones that hadn’t gotten crushed.
We were being rescued!
“Where are they going to go?” asked one of the kiddos in the yard, helping to put apples in a bucket.
“They’re going to go in hampers,” said a person in a black shirt with a picture of a white apple. “To feed people in our community who don’t have enough money to buy fresh fruit.”
Great idea! We’re already fresh, and now we’ll get to be helpful too!
Our Happy Apples are on their way to join Russell and the rest of the good food making up a feast for a family in need. Thanks for coming along on our journey, and have a warm and wonderful holiday!
At this time of year, it’s more important than ever to keep good food out of landfills and get it to community members who would otherwise go hungry. Please donate today to help Leftovers support our service agency partners and volunteers this holiday season and all year round.
Your generous gift will equip our volunteers with scales, thermometers, ladders, and fruit pickers, support our staff to make those last-minute, just-in-time food rescues, and keep the lights on in our warehouses so we can split up the big donations of produce for our service agency partners.
Leftovers is here because of people like you–people who want to rescue good food and get it to the most vulnerable members of your community. By donating to the Leftovers Foundation, you are keeping good food moving to our service agency partners and to neighbours who need it in the true holiday spirit of sharing and celebration.
Thank you for being someone who cares whether good food is wasted! This holiday season, Leftovers needs your help. Give now to rescue good food and get it to the people who need it most.
